Ibiza
Overview
Ibiza has a reputation as being an island devoted to clubbers and hedonism. Indeed, many people take cheap package holidays here to immerse themselves in the world-famous party scene, but Ibiza has a lesser known side that is perfect for family holidays.
Beaches, medieval castles, craft shops and superb restaurants offer an alternative to the party-scene and there are many resorts that provide a quiet, secluded environment in which to enjoy cheap family holidays.
Resorts
Playa d’en Bossa, San Antonio Bay and Cala Llonga are extremely child friendly and cater for younger children, with play parks, trampolines and climbing frames, some set on soft sanded beaches, so that you can relax and be sure that your children are safe at the same time. Those looking for a secluded retreat could head to Portinatx on the very north east tip of the island, while Santa Eulalia offers a sophisticated marina some exceptional shopping.
Older children might be interested in Ibiza’s history: Dalt Villa is a medieval castle that has a network of tunnels and passageways, as well as battlements that offer wonderful views of the island.
In May, the castle and many other historic sites are brought to life in the Ibiza Medieval Festival. Book cheap holidays at this time of year and you could be swept up in the carnival atmosphere, watching falconry, archery displays, snake charmers, exploring the medieval stalls and joining in with the late night carousing.
Ibiza has a rich heritage and these are reflected in the many attractions that pepper the island. You can almost step back in time to the 1970’s when visiting the famous ‘Hippy Market’ in Es Cana, visit the Salt Flats in Las Salinas or perhaps see the island on one of the popular train tours.
Of course, the party scene is an integral part to some areas of Ibiza, where world class DJs and revellers meet to create some of the most famous events across the globe.
But, Ibiza is also an island rich in its own history and culture and that offers a perfect location to get away from it all. Whether you are a partygoer, or looking to relax on one of the many secluded beaches, an Ibiza holiday is sure to have something surprising to offer you.
