We've set out some frequently asked questions we have had from our customers to help everyone understand what they are getting when booking their holiday with a travel agent with full ABTA and ATOL bonding.

Unlike other online promises of financial guarantees ours is cast iron, ensuring you get home from resort in the event of your travel provider failure. We will take care of everything for you and organise alternative arrangements. We'll even take care of all of the paperwork on your behalf. This is all part of a service we believe you should receive that not all travel agencies will provide.

Who are we?

MonsterTravel is an independent travel agent based in Newcastle upon Tyne with 70 staff and nearly 500 years experience between us. Hopefully this gives you an idea of how dedicated to travel we all are! We are part of the Freedom Travel Group Limited, part of the Co-operative Group Limited, who as I'm sure you already know, have a history of putting the customer first and corporate responsibility. They are also the UK's largest independent travel agency.

What types of holiday do we sell?

MonsterTravel sell traditional package holidays from all the major Tour Operators including, Thomson, First Choice, Thomas Cook and Cosmos to name a few.

We also sell holidays from different travel providers and package them together on your behalf, either because it is a cheaper option for you or this gives you something that you want from your accommodation or flight provider that a traditional package can't.

This is often referred to as a "Build your Own", "Tailor-made" or "dynamically packaged" holiday. Under the package travel regulations, although the elements of your holiday may be sourced from different travel providers this is still a package holiday.

At MonsterTravel we feel this is the best way to give the customer the ultimate in choice and the financial protection they need. Not all of our competitors offer this degree of protection. Read our Frequently Asked Questions below before making your holiday purchase decision.

What is an ABTA Bond?

This is a bond lodged with The Association of British Travel Agents and recognises that travel agents are taking customers monies and using this to pay the ultimate providers of that customers travel services.

The bond serves to protect the customer from the travel agent misusing those funds or becoming insolvent prior to paying those funds to the ultimate travel provider.

What is an ATOL Bond?

An ATOL bond is governed by the Civil Aviation Authority and is essentially governed by the Package Travel Regulations. This provides that any holiday booked with a travel provider should be bonded.

In practise this means that if anything happens to any of the providers of any element of your holiday (e.g. insolvency), you should not be disadvantaged.

Tailor-made or Build Your Own Holidays:

What Happens in the event of corporate travel failure from one of my travel providers before travel?

If either your flight provider or hotel provider fails before you travel the staff here at MonsterTravel will try and find you an alternative flight or hotel so that you can still get away on holiday.

Sometimes this may mean only more expensive flights or hotels are available and you would pay the difference in the cost. (Although usually you are covered for up to a 20% tolerance in price difference) If this was the case and you did not want to pay more we can cancel your holiday and you will receive a full refund on all elements of the holiday, not just the element from the failed travel provider.

This is one area where our cover differs from other agents that do not hold an ATOL Bond.

What happens if one of my Travel Providers ceases trading whilst I am in resort?

If this happens the CAA will organise repatriation on your behalf. We will support them and you in ensuring this is as smooth as possible.

What happens if MonsterTravel became insolvent?

In the unlikely event that MonsterTravel became insolvent before your holiday, ABTA would ensure that either your travel arrangements were completed or that you would receive a full refund.

At MonsterTravel even if you don't book your holiday with us we urge you to book with an agent who will provide you with the same financial guarantees.
