Torremolinos is one of the liveliest of the Costa del Sol resorts, making it especially popular with young people due to the extensive variety of entertainment, activities and nightlife available. Its clean, sandy beaches stretch for 6km and the seasonal sea sports including windsurfing, paragliding, water skiing and pedal boats, make it an ideal location for a family holiday.
Situated 7km west of Malaga airport, Torremolinos was one of the first towns to be developed as a holiday resort on the Costa del Sol and despite the modernisation, it has retained much of its Spanish character and friendliness. This tranquil atmosphere is most noticeable out of season, when the town has a more relaxed pace.
The principle destination for shopping in Torremolinos is the main street known as Calle San Miguel which also plays host to the majority of nightclubs. Torremolinos has a thriving gay scene and venues such as the Fun Beach disco and nightclub in C/Mallorca offers clubbers all night entertainment and guests/staff are encouraged to dress in swimwear and party round the pool.
The Torremolinos area has a good selection of accommodation options with a number of reputable agencies offering self catering rental accommodation on a long term or short term holiday basis, including apartments and villas. The beachfront also has a range of three and four star hotels which cater for the package holiday market. A wide selection of restaurants reflect the diverse cultures of the resort.
A holiday in Torremolinos can also incorporate history as an impressive 14th century Arab watchtower still remains from the old town. There is also a vast array of leisure activities on offer including golf, equestrian shows and two dozen rides at Tivoli World, the Costa del Sol's biggest theme park, which is located in Benalmadena, 3 km north-west of Torremolinos.
