Playa Blanca is a fishing village on the south coast of Lanzarote. The resort gets its name from the man-made, white, sandy beaches that surround it. Even though Playa Blanca is popular with tourists, it still has its original charm.
There are lots of good places to eat and drink along the seafront but the beach is definitely the main attraction in Playa Blanca. The resort is good for families and couples so the night life is not wild. Entertainment is mostly provided by the hotels but anyone wanting a bit more can make the half hour journey to Puerto del Carmen.
The supermarkets in Playa Blanca are good and sell brands that you will recognise. There are also plenty of shops by the harbour for souvenirs and gifts. If you like visiting the markets, Costa Teguise has one every Sunday. Here, you can buy a selection of local products.
Top restaurants in Playa Blanca include Casa Pedro, La Bocaina and Brisa Marina. There are lots of places to eat by the seafront and this area has plenty of atmosphere in the evening.
The beaches in Playa Blanca have lots of water activities. Boat trips are regular and will take you to the Papagayo beaches if you want to spend some time there.
If you head out of the resort, you can go to the Timanfaya National Park.
Here you can get a taste of the island's volcanic character that makes it so unique. You can also go on a camel ride or catch a ferry to Fuerteventura.
Other attractions include the caves at La Cueva de los Verdes, Lanzarote's Museum of Contemporary Art and a very prickly cactus garden.
