Puerto del Carmen is one of Lanzarote's main resorts. You can find it on the south coast, tucked underneath a range of hills. The main feature here is a 2–mile stretch of beach.

Shops, bars and restaurants are concentrated along a main strip in Puerto del Carmen. Many of the venues offer entertainment and you can find something to suit all tastes.

The shops sell an abundance of goods from fashion to souvenirs. Anyone wanting to buy local produce should visit the Sunday market in Costa Teguise. Here you can buy allsorts of traditional items from pottery to tablecloths.

In Puerto del Carmen, there are tons of places to go if you fancy a meal out. Popular haunts include Bodega, Della Pasta and Chiquito. You can get food here from all over the world. You will find many restaurants around the harbour.

This resort is the night–time hotspot of Lanzarote and holiday–makers from many of the other resorts descend in the evening. The Centre Atlantico is the place to go for cocktails, then, you can head on to The Hippodrome or Caesars for some late night dancing. If you don't fancy that, there are lots of other music venues and karaoke bars. For those of you with children in tow, Star Bar specialises in entertainment that all the family can enjoy.

If you holiday in Puerto del Carmen, you will have lots of water activities to enjoy. Vendors on the beach will take you jet–skiing, sailing, windsurfing or out for a spin on the ever popular banana boat. Some companies in this part of Lanzarote organise deep–sea fishing excursions and there are scuba–diving schools if you want to see the underwater world.

If you want to stay dry on your holiday, there are lots of activities on land too. Tennis, squash, horse–riding and golf are all available in Puerto del Carmen. You can enjoy the water without getting your feet wet, by taking one of the many boat trips available. Or you could visit Timanfaya National Park where you can fully appreciate Lanzarote's beautiful landscape.

Other attractions in Lanzarote include the caves at La Cueva de los Verdes, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the cactus garden.
