Playa de las Americas is Tenerife's largest and liveliest resort. This purpose-built holiday playground is ideal for a carefree year–round package holiday with access to wonderful clean beaches, vibrant nightlife and plenty of activities.
Tenerife is a volcanic island and the few natural beaches that it does have are made from dark volcanic sand. Playa de las Americas boasts three natural beaches and three man–made which have soft golden sand imported from the Sahara Desert. A long promenade and mini–train conveniently connects the beaches.
You'll find great value restaurants on every corner and with so much competition there's plenty of cheap eats to enjoy. Take your pick from an array of eateries including Chinese, Indian, fast food favourites or traditional tapas.
The Canary Islands are tax free havens and so clothes and electrical goods make the best bargains. Playa de las Americas itself offers a vast array of shops and supermarkets; many selling British imported goods. For a change of scene head to nearby Torviscas market; which takes place on a Thursday and Saturday from 10am.
Playa de las Americas is a honey pot for the young and young at heart. Nightlife here is lively and brash; beginning late and lasting until the early hours. Head for the commercial strips of Las Veronicas, Starco and The Patch where many of Tenerife's pubs, karaoke bars and clubs pulsate until dawn with neon and noise. The Torviscas side of the resort is more relaxed with traditional music shows on offer.
With everything from water sports to bungee jumping Playa de las Americas packs a punch when it comes to keeping you busy. Nature lovers will enjoy Loro Parque with its collection of parrots, penguins and sharks. And nearby Aqua Park offers the obligatory water fun. A trip to fiery Mount Teide, Tenerife's active volcano, makes an excellent excursion; as does a visit to Santa Cruz – the island's capital. Here you can enjoy lunch at a courtyard restaurant or browse the chic designer boutiques.
